Maputo (Canalmoz) – A Embaixada Estados Unidos da América em Moçambique declara que os EUA apoiam o aumento do comércio com Moçambique através da Lei do Crescimento e Oportunidade para África (AGOA).
Segundo a comunicação da Embaixada, o Ministério da Indústria e Comércio de Moçambique apresentou, na segunda-feira, em Maputo, a estratégia de utilização da AGOA no país.
Projectada para aumentar o comércio e o crescimento económico em toda a África, espera-se que a estratégia ajude a garantir que as empresas moçambicanas estejam melhor colocadas para usar a AGOA no acesso isento de impostos, no mercado dos EUA, a cerca de 6500 produtos.
Segundo a Embaixada dos EUA, embora a AGOA tenha sido promulgada no ano de 2000, apenas um milhão de dólares norte-americanos – dos 100 milhões de dólares norte-americanos de exportações moçambicanas para os Estados Unidos – tira proveito do acesso livre de impostos da AGOA. Por esta razão, o Governo dos EUA, através do projecto “USAID Speed+”, ajudou o Governo de Moçambique a desenvolver a sua estratégia de utilização da AGOA, e o Centro de Comércio e Investimento da África Austral da USAID continua a colaborar com empresas moçambicanas para promover o aumento do comércio e investimento bilateral.
A AGOA é a iniciativa comercial fundamental dos Estados Unidos para a África Subsaariana e um forte símbolo da parceria dos EUA com a região. Os dez anos de extensão da AGOA, até 2025, oferecem ao sector privado uma oportunidade de desenvolver e implementar uma relação comercial de longo prazo com os Estados Unidos. (Eugénio da Câmara)
